The World We Fought For [for fieryknowledge]
It was oddly calm in those last moments, a peace that came over him as he fought purely on muscle memory against the massive giant trying to smash him. Somewhere behind him, he could hear Prompto, not just the sound of gun fire, but it sounded like he was screaming, over and over, as he fought. Wordless angry shouts that if he had the time to think, to care beyond second to second of just surviving, would have torn him apart. The sound of pain, of loss, of anger. He'd lost track of Ignis, always so silent, and he feared the worst. He tried to look anyway, find his love in the chaos. Make sure he was still-
Second to second, he shouldn't have looked away. The giant found its opening as Gladio's eyes scanned the wreckage, trying to spot Ignis in all of it. The fear in his heart settled when he spotted the other, still up, still fighting, even as the massive blade slammed under his guard and sent him flying to hit the ground hard. A spike of pain screamed in his shoulder, but he barely noticed.
They had turned their back on Noct to let him die, walking forward to their fates knowing they would do the same. All they had to do was hold on long enough, just long enough to let him truly become the Chosen King. Gladio had accepted what would come, and while he thought Ignis knew, in a way, he was content with this. He had protected Noct until the end. Ignis might still live.
The giant raised its blade, and try as he might, Gladio couldn't get his own blade to lift. It wouldn't be possible on that broken shoulder. He stared up at his death, then let out a breath. ...I kept my promise.
I love you, Iggy.
Let there be light.
It came across the skies like a needle thrust into the heart of the darkness itself, a shaft of light so brilliant and golden that it hurt the eyes. The giants roar hurt almost as much, stabbing into his head until he was forced to close his eyes.

Not that he sounded put out by that at all. He couldn't remember the last time he'd lazed around in bed with his lover and while he didn't exactly feel fantastic, he felt better than he had in quite some time. He felt whole and each little twinge from Gladio's tender mercies the day before were all worth it.
This time, it wasn't a chuckle. It was a pleased sigh and a moment later, there were slim fingers sliding into Gladio's hair.
"... it's gotten so long. You realize I'm going to have trouble keeping my hands out of it, don't you?"
no subject
"Mmm, definitely not complaining about that." It was free around his face, long since pulled from the horseknot he usually kept it in, even if it did badly need to get washed. He flicked out his tongue, debating what they were even capable of.
Hells, he didn't mind the idea of just being able to slowly get Ignis off with his hand right now, but it also might be the extent of it.
no subject
"... we should get up and get cleaned up. As tempting as staying in bed sounds, we really should make sure we can scrounge up something to eat for everyone."
Of course, for all his talk, he didn't move an inch.

Gladio looked down at his traitor stomach and sighed slowly before pulling Ignis up into a proper kiss. Only then did he murmur against his lover's lips, "I wouldn't mind getting you off right here then finding a shower we can take together." That very low rumble that could be felt in his chest.
no subject
What his lover said against his lips was enough to make him want to dally around in bed even longer, even if he knew that they had things to do.
"You have no idea how good that sounds."
no subject
He could ignore the faint uncertain feeling somewhere at the back of his mind that neither of them knew was coming from the awake Prompto, but Prompto was equally about to find out about their new connections'... changes.
no subject
"Just take care of me and I'll return the favor in the shower. How does that sound?"
no subject
"Good." A single low word as his hand brushed curls darker than on Ignis' head, sliding his nails through, around, underneath until he could cup Ignis in the broadness of his palm, rolling his sac on it.
no subject
He sighed softly, Gladio's name in that breath as he just let himself go for now.
no subject
"When we're both healed properly, we'll have one of these big beds to ourselves and I promise... we'll make up for lost time, mm?" With the softest squeeze.
no subject
"I'm not some blushing virgin you're trying to coax along, love. It's been so long that I'm not sure relaxing is possible. Looks like we'll have to work on our stamina somehow."
no subject
So much had changed in such a short time. The text that had called them back to Noctis' side. That final meal. Their walk to the knowledge of their deaths. Finally ending Ardyn. Sometimes, Gladio wondered if they had died.
no subject
"I've always loved your voice. Even before I realized I loved you."
no subject
"In that, we're the same," he murmured, touching his lips to Ignis' temple. "I've never stopped loving your voice."
no subject
It was all so long ago. There were days that Ignis had trouble remembering the exact shade of Gladio's eyes, or the tilt of his smile and that upset him more than anyone would ever know.
Now wasn't the time to think on that, though, not when Gladio's deft fingers wouldn't allow it. His milky eye closed against that pleasure as his body canted closer, his breath a shuddering whisper.
"Don't tease."
no subject
It wasn't the rough, hungry sex they'd had as their norm over the last few years in particular, when Gladio tried to show his love in the need of his hands, the cry in his voice, the taste of Ignis' skin in his mouth. This was more simple, undoubtedly more intimate.
no subject
There was a huff from Ignis as he turned his head to try and catch those teasing lips with his own. He might love the sound of his lover's voice, but there were better things he could be doing with that busy mouth.
"It would serve you right if I decided to stay quiet during sex from now on."
no subject
No, they hadn't had the time, or the mind-state, or hells they were denying themselves that they had, but the world had changed, again. By their hand, and Noct's. Giving them a certain peace they hadn't had before.
Ignis wanted him to put that mouth to better use? Okay. Gladio brought his mouth down and gave a slow, tightening bite at Ignis' neck, then gave a hard suck against the skin, proud to leave a mark behind.

"You know what we haven't had in so damn long?" Gladio's voice was a growl because already he was imagining it. "A place with real soundproofing. I'll be able to take you like I did that first time and make you cry out just as loudly."
He wasn't exaggerating when he said Ignis' voice had always been a turn on for him.
no subject
"I know a perfect spot."
And he did as long as it wasn't too bad off. Once they were all recovered and well again, they could find out how it had fared and try it out.

"Do- have you? Tell me."
So close-
no subject
"Right on that edge, as high as we can be in the city. Have you beautiful and bare so the whole world can look on you and maybe see a hundredth of the gorgeousness I fucking see. Lean you on that railing and take you so we can both look over, a hand in your hair and holding tight? Fuck do you have any idea how many times I've gotten off to that?"
no subject
That was all it took. Ignis tensed up, his breath catching as he spilled over Gladio's hand. It was the hardest he'd come in years and almost to the point of being painful, but in the years he'd been Gladio's lover, he'd learned that bliss and pain weren't all that far apart.
It was work to get his breathing back to normal and even then, the noise that spilled from his lips still sounded breathless. Once his body was back under his command, he reached for Gladio, offering up a slow kiss as a thank you until he could return the treat.
